Support Backward Interactive Functions of MPEG –2 Stream
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we present an efficient approach for supporting rewind operations in MPEG-based stream. This approach is based on transcoding the Predicted (P)frames of the original MPEG stream as intra coded (I)-frames in order to create an “interactive” stream. After a P-frame is retrieved, transmitted, decoded and played out, we encode this frame as a sequence of I-frames and store it back to an additional storage at the client. Transcoding only the Predicted (P)frames of the primary stream to generate the secondary “interactive” stream results in less frame rate of the secondary stream. The frame rate of the secondary stream can be artificially increased by including so called P (M) marionette frames .The effectiveness of our approach in terms of reducing the allocated bandwidth of the interactive stream is evaluated through extensive simulations. Moreover the visual quality during the interactive mode is analyzed. Key-Words: MPEGReverse/Backward Operations--VCR control -Scanning operationsVideo Browsing

Stream Conversion to Support Interactive Playout of Videos in a Client Station
In this paper we address the problem of supporting interactive playout of an MPEG encoded video stream at a player device. We propose a method for transforming the standard MPEG stream to a local form at the player device, which then enables the device to support eecient interactive playout, speciically for backward playout, even when the buuer space available is constrained. Explicitly, we dev...

متن کاملA New Methodology For Implementing Interactive Operations Of Mpeg-2 Compressed Video
A new method for supporting Fast Forward and Fast Rewind operations of MPEG-2 compressed video is presented. Transcoding of MPEG intra-coded frames can be used to support interactive operations. The effectiveness of our approach in terms of reducing the per(I) frame allocated bandwidth of the alternative stream is evaluated through extensive simulations. Moreover the visual quality during the i...
متن کاملMPEG-4/AVC versus MPEG-2 in IPTV
This paper is essentially a treatment of the theoretical and practical aspects of the new IPTV service. The central part of the paper constitutes a detailed presentation of analysis scenarios and results, and addresses the following issues in particular: What influence does the encoding rate have of on QoE values? What effect does the most obtrusive impairment factor in a network, i.e. packet l...
متن کاملThe Split and Merge Protocol for Interactive Video-on-Demand
V ideo-on-demand (VoD) combines the service quality of cable TV with the interaction capabilities of a VCR (see Figure 1). Its birth followed technical advances in information retrieval, consumer electronics, networking, and digital signal processing, and the convergence of communications, computers, and entertainment. With VoD services, customers may select programs from massive, remote video ...
